Mindfulness is an embodied awareness of the present moment; an open yet focused awareness of what is—not in the past or future, but right now. When we’re mindful, we listen, concentrate, and notice. Neuroscientists say we can retrain and change our brains. If we practice mindfulness, we more effectively pay attention, regulate emotions, and process information. We’re less anxious and more productive.

Mindfulness instructions are simple, but their application requires effort. It’s helpful to have a teacher guide the process.

Offerings
One-Time Introduction to Mindfulness
(Staff Retreat, Company Lunch-and-Learn, Team Meeting)
Mindfulness is in the news, but most people don’t know what it really means. In an introductory session, I define mindfulness (what it is and what it isn’t), discuss the science and benefits, give suggestions for everyday practice, guide a short meditation, and provide space for questions. If the timeframe is elongated, I discuss mindful speech and listening (bringing awareness to conversation), cultivating positive experience, and additional salient topics for the group.

Five-Week Course
My 5-week course—delivered in the workplace—begins with an introduction to mindfulness, formal instruction on attention training, and suggestions for informal practice that can be applied in daily life. The classes build to include exercises in active listening, working with difficult emotion, and cultivating positive experience. Each class ends with small yet important assignments. The elongated time-frame lets employees fully engage with mindfulness and form new habits.

Supplementary Class or Course
I'm a flexible teacher with rich and varied experience. I can create mindfulness classes specifically for your workplace or supplement your current programming. The applications of mindfulness are vast. I'll meet your business right where it is. Let me know your needs.

One-on-One Sessions
Business leaders benefit from meditation and mindfulness, yet they may need confidential one-on-one sessions to practice deeply and authentically.

Teacher
My name is Joy Jordan (based in Appleton, WI). I have a Ph.D. in statistics and a 15-year mindfulness practice (2000+ hours of meditation practice, including 20 silent retreats). For years, I held a tenured position at Lawrence University, where I earned one national and two local teaching awards. To better align my inner- and outer-lives, I left academia and now teach meditation and mindfulness. I live, teach, write, and photograph with a curious mind and an open heart. You can find my credentials, references, and recommendations on LinkedIn.

Where to Begin
Before scheduling a mindfulness event, it’s important that I understand your workplace and you understand me. Please contact me for an in-person meeting, where we can discuss structure, logistics, and fees.
